Manchester United fans have sent a clear message to Cristiano Ronaldo amidst speculation over a move from Real Madrid.
The Portuguese superstar has been linked with a return to Old Trafford, although Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has tried to play down the talk of a transfer in recent weeks.
Aerial message
However, the Manchester United fans clearly still believe the FIFA Ballon d’Or winner could make a sensational return to Old Trafford, and have urged him to do so via an aerial message.
Indeed, fan group United Reel paid for a banner to be flown over El Madrigal - stadium of Villarreal - during a La Liga clash between the Spanish giants and the Yellow Submarine.
'COME HOME RONALDO - UNITED REEL’, the message read as the plane flew over the stadium.
They also wrote on Twitter: "We are all united by our love for Cristiano both as a player and as a person. We stand united in our views and will not stop until we BRING RONALDO HOME!"
A famous return
Whether Ronaldo paid any attention to the message - or even saw it - is up for debate, but it’s easy to see why Manchester United would want the player back at the club after a season to forget under David Moyes.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a special relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, but left for the Santiago Bernabeu for a then-world record fee in excess of £80million back in 2009.
Having only won one La Liga and one Champions League trophy since the move, it’s not necessarily been the success he would have hoped for, and Manchester United fans will hope his love for the club could lure him back to England.
