Manchester United manager David Moyes has been given three
matches to prove that he should be in charge of the Red Devils at the
start of next season.
The beleaguered Scot, who has endured a nightmare debut campaign at
Old Trafford, must ensure that his team produce markedly improved
performances over the next seven days, during which they play three
crucial fixtures - one in the Champions League, and two in the Premier
League - in order to keep his job as the manager of Manchester United, according to The Sun.
The club's board have reportedly grown "increasingly dismayed" by the
team's abject performances, while Moyes was locked in crisis talks with
his coaching staff on Monday and Sunday.
First up for United are Olympiakos, who pulled off a surprise 2-0 win
against the reigning Premier League champions in the first leg of the
Champions League last 16 at the end of February. Moyes’ side produced a
dismal performance in Piraeus, and the United boss will be expected to
mastermind a turnaround in fortunes at Old Trafford in front of an
expectant home crowd on Wednesday night.
Moyes then takes his side to Upton Park on Saturday afternoon. While
Manchester United’s hopes of securing a top-four finish are now
seemingly dead and buried, they are still playing for a place in next
season’s Europa League and must beat the Hammers in east London this
weekend to keep up with fifth-placed Tottenham and sixth-placed Everton.
Three days later and Moyes, who by this point could have one game
left to save his job, will be preparing for Tuesday night’s league game
against local rivals Manchester City. Another humiliating defeat at Old
Trafford against Manuel Pellegrini’s men could effectively spell the end
for Moyes.
On Monday, a Manchester United fanzone revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson is considering the possibility of making a shock return to management. Could the legendary Scot take over from Moyes until the end of the season?
