Tottenham are set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Lazio star Ogenyi Onazi in the summer, according to reports in the Metro.


The paper claims that Spurs are confident that they can land the exciting 21-year-old ahead of their Premier League rivals when the next transfer window opens at the end of the season, as their director of football, Franco Baldini, has made already contact concerning a move. It’s believed that the Reds have been eyeing Onazi for some time now, with Brendan Rodgers keen on making his a part of his squad at Anfield.

However the Northern Irishman is destined to be disappointed if the Metro is to be believed, as they suggest that Baldini is determined to land Onazi for a fee of £8million. These rumours come only a few days after the Lazio youngster admitted that it was his desire to play in England, with his club said to be resigned to the fact that they are going to lose him.

It’s highly likely a bidding war will break out between the two English giants, though if Liverpool can secure a place in next season’s Champions League they may ultimately be able to seal an advantage.
