Liverpool kept their title hopes alive as they moved back to the top of the Premier League after a dominant 4-0 victory over a woeful Tottenham at Anfield. 


An own goal from Younes Kaboul set the home side on their way, before further goals from Luis Suarez, Philipe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson secured an eighth straight league win, as they leapfrogged Chelsea at the top of the league table.

Boosted by Chelsea's surprise defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, and with title favourites Manchester City dropping points to Arsenal, the stage was set for Liverpool to capitalise infront of their home fans, against an out of form Tottenham side in need of a win to keep alive their top four hopes.

And any questions over the home sides ability to handle the pressure were distinguished almost immediately when they took the lead in the second minute when Tottenham defender Kaboul inadvertently turned home a cross from Glen Johnson to give Liverpool the lead.

Things went from bad to worse for Kaboul, who was at fault for Liverpool's second, after his error presented Suarez with a chance to make 2-0, and the Uruguayan made no mistake as he fired a low left-footed drive past Hugo Lloris into the corner of the net on 25 minutes.

The Liverpool forward was then denied his second of the game when Lloris made a great save, pushing Suarez's header onto the post, before the break.

Spurs looked to mount a second-half comeback, but were outclassed once again after the break, as their hopes of making the Champions League places all but faded on a disappointing afternoon on Merseyside where they failed to test Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.

Jordan Henderson squandered a great chance to make it three, blazing over from Raheem Sterling's clever cutback, before Coutinho put the result beyond doubt with the pick of the goals on 55 minutes.

The Brazilian carried the ball towards the Spurs goal, before firing home from 25 yards.
Henderson then atoned for his earlier miss, albeit with a fortunate fourth goal, as his free kick evaded everyone, before finding its way into the corner of the net.

The victory means Liverpool top the Premier League, with just six games remaining, with Brendan Rodger's side two points ahead of Chelsea.

Manchester City sit four points behind in third, although have two games in hand over the Reds.
