The footballing world has witnessed several outstanding players over the years,from generation to generation. But few players stand out to make a mark in the centre-stage. With their unique talent and overwhelming skills have shown why they are loved by footballing fans all across the globe.

We look at some of the unknown facts about footballers that are not commonly known. Some are bound to cause surprises. Lets Go!!!

Robert Lewandowski:


A volcanic ash cloud stopped Robert Lewandowski from flying to England to complete a £3million move to Blackburn Rovers from Polish club Zincz Pruszkow in 2008 according to the Daily Mail.
The Polish international eventually joined Lech Poznan, and two years later was a Borussia Dortmund player and the rest is history.

Jordan Henderson:


Jordan Henderson is the only player in the history to play his 1st, 50th,100th match for Liverpool against his former club Sunderland according to Liverpool's official website.
He played his debut game for the Anfield outfit on 13th August, 2011 and his 100th on 29th September, 2013.
 Ryan Giggs:


Manchester United midfielder and former Welsh international Ryan Giggs has never received a Red Card throughout his career.
Giggs has been playing for the Old Trafford outfit since 1990.

Xavi Hernandez:


Barcelona and Spain midfielder, Xavi missed only two penalties in his career,both on January 5th in 2003 and 2014.
5th January,2003 against Huelva and in 2014 against La Liga side, Elche.

 Zlatan Ibrahimovic:


Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the only first-teamplayer of Paris-Saint-Germain, who has not qualified for World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
 Sweden were knocked out in the playoffs against Portugal in 2013.

 Chelsea FC:


Chelsea is the only Premier League club to have won UEFA’s three main football competitions (Champions League, Cup Winner’s Cup and Europa League).
They won the Champions League against FC Bayern Munich, Cup Winner’s Cup against Stuttgart and Europa League against SL Benfica.

 Zlatan & Cristiano:


Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo: both had trials for London club Arsenal but manager Arsene Wenger never signed them.
Ibrahimovic joined Ajax from Malmo while Ronaldo was eventually signed up by Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Diego Maradona:

Argentine legend Diego Maradona played for Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly match against Inter Milan, just before 1986 World Cup.
Spurs won the game 2-1. The Argentine legend was then a Napoli player playing in Serie A.

Lionel Messi:


Although amassing goals and breaking records every year throughout his career playing for Barcelona, Lionel Messi has not scored for eight games against Chelsea.
Messi missed a penalty at Camp Nou, which was the last time the two teams met, in the Champions League clash in the semi-finals of 2012.
