David Moyes' reign at Manchester United seems to be getting worse game by game.
Just
as when it looks like the Premier League champions are going to string
some kind of form together they go and lose against the likes of Stoke
or West Brom.
Manchester United's last game against Fulham
showed that the former Everton manager is somewhat out of his depth when
it comes to tactical battles against intricate tacticians such as Rene Meulensteen.
The former Red Devils coach knew exactly how Moyes
was going to set up and was confident that his defenders could deal with
the threat of long ball after long ball coming into the penalty area.
Moyes
should have instructed his players to keep the ball on the floor and
play it to the likes of Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata who could then feed
Robin van Persie as he had no chance of beating the gigantic Dan Burn in
the air.
Boos echoed around Old Trafford after Darren Bent
scored a last-minute equaliser to help his side claim a point against
the Premier League champions.
The Red Devils are currently
languishing in seventh spot with 13 games to go and are nine points off
fourth-placed Liverpool. Manchester United's north-west rivals finished
28 points behind the Premier League champions last season, which shows
just how far the Old Trafford-based side have fallen since Moyes took
over the reins from Sir Alex Ferguson.
Manchester United fans
did not expect instant success under Moyes but they will be extremely
disappointed that their side could miss out on a place in the Champions
League next season and are out of both the FA Cup and Capital One Cup.
Their
seems to be some kind of status attached to Manchester United that they
are not a 'sacking club' like Manchester City and Chelsea - but that is
because they had a manager of Ferguson's stature and prowess in charge
of their club for the last 26 years.
Both Manchester City and
Chelsea would have shown Moyes the door before the transfer window if he
had failed to steady what looks to be a sinking ship. The 50-year-old
was left with the same group of players that lifted the Premier League
title last year and even added an international midfielder worth £27.5million to his ranks.
The
buck stops with the captain of the ship - despite the fact the majority
of his players have failed to deliver throughout the season.
Manchester
United's top brass - including Sir Alex Ferguson and the Glazer family -
may have no choice but to dismiss Moyes if the Red Devils fail to
finish in the top four.
They would not be able to take the
chance of missing out on a place in the Champions League in successive
seasons as it could have a devastating effect on the club.
Players
like Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and even the recently signed Juan
Mata will not want to stick around for too long if they are not playing
in the world's most prestigious tournament.
Manchester United
need a world class manager, who is able to handle different
personalities and who has experienced winning trophies.
One man
who has the aforementioned credentials is Germany manager Joachim Low.
The 54-year-old has steered his national side to the final of Euro 2008
and saw his side lose in the semi-final of both Euro 2012 and the 2006
World Cup.
Low - unlike Moyes - has won silverware in the past and has a terrific win percentage of 68.32 since taking over the reins from Jurgen Klinsmann as manager of the German national team.
The German tactician signed a two-year deal
to stay in charge of The Eagles last October - but surely a club of
Manchester United's ilk could tempt him away from his current role after
this year's World Cup in Brazil.
