Arsenal are one of the most successful football clubs
in England. Under the intelligent guide of long-serving coach Arsene
Wenger, the Gunners, as they are affectionately known, have won a host
of trophies and have produced some of the finest talent ever seen in
football.
They revolutionized the 'sexy soccer' routine with their slick,
simple style brand of football. They are one of the teams, if not the
only, to have a similar record of possession dominance and brand of
football as Spanish and German giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
However, the Gunners have failed to clinch a trophy in eight and
a-half years. So long has it been since they got silverware that some
fans have started calling out for Wenger's head to roll. Blaming him for
the clubs demise.
A player exodus such as the ones in recent years haven't made his
life any easier. Arsenal have been playing the same type of football and
that hasn't helped them at all. Their reluctance to play other tactics
that fit in with the physicality of the English Premier League has seen them lose matches that they really need to be winning.
Wenger now needs to change his style of play and take the game to his
opponents. A similar game style as that of Borrusia Dortmund, Real
Madrid or even the type of style that saw them being wiped by Liverpool
5-1. A more direct counter attacking football. A tactic that employs
pace and speed. Pairing up that tactic with his current possession type
of football would rocket the Gunners to great heights.
An attacking combination of Podolski, Walcott, Gnabry and Chamberlain
would do damage to any defense. Pair it up with the defense splitting
midfield passing talent of the likes of Mesut Ozil, Wilshere, Carzola
and Rosicky and you would have a very strong Arsenal team that would instantly turn the Emirates stadium into a fortress to be feared.
In the next season, Wenger needs to overhaul his tactics. Add speed,
accuracy, counter attacking football and you have one of the best
Arsenal teams ever. By just the change of tactics, Wenger could turn his
entire squad into Gunners legends.
A tactical change would improve the game of Ozil who needs fast
runners to run behind in order that he provides the killer assist, or
Walcott who has time and time again shown why he yearns to be at the
front as a striker. Just look at Walcott's equaliser in the game against
Man City. He and Ozil clicked and hatched a killer fast counter attack.
Had that been an Arsenal tactic that had been perfected, the Gunners
would have given Man City a run for their money.
Against Man Utd, they also needed to play fast attacking football.
Had they unleashed Podolski and had they had Walcott in the match,
Manchester United would have been licking some serious wounds.
Ozil, Walcott, Chamberlain, Gnabry, Podolski and Carzola are just a few Arsenal players who would flourish with a fast paced tactic.
But the question stands: would Wenger employ such a tactic? Let's wait and see.
